During spring, Parisian Cotton is often used to make yarmulkes or kippot. According to Keep Me in Stitches, a Galler Yarns retailer in Long Island, NY, each cone can be used to make about 30 yarmulkes.
There are many great resources online for yarmulke patterns, so we thought we'd share some of our favorites.
- Eastside Fiber Arts includes links to many free crochet and knit kippot patterns.
- Kippa Designs shares a basic formula for a crocheted "kippa base" and includes links to graphs for color work on the edges.
- Jennifer Tocker from Ms. Yarnaholic's School for Wayward Skeins has a free knit yarmulke pattern in reverse stockinette stitch. You can also find design and construction ideas in her "Kippalong" posts from 2005.
- Ravelry members can also search the pattern database for yarmulke or kippah patterns.
This week we're sharing our free pattern, the Pinwheel Yarmulke by Marie Segares, early in case you want to crochet some before Passover.
This pattern uses a combination of Tunisian crochet and crochet stitches.
